Information for Children & Young People

My name is Zoe and I manage Aspire Intermediary Services.

Let me tell you a little about what an Intermediary is and how my team can help you.

My Intermediary is…

  • Your Intermediary can help you understand what is happening in court.
  • Court can be complicated and confusing, and it is sometimes really hard to understand what’s happening and what people are saying.
  • Your Intermediary is there to explain what’s happening every step of the way.
  • Speaking in front of everyone at court can feel scary. Your Intermediary can help make court feel less scary.

Why do I need one?

  • It’s important you understand what’s happening.
  • Your Intermediary will be next to you if you need to give evidence in court.
  • They help you tell the court your views and make sure you understand what’s happening.
  • Your Intermediary can help you ask questions and will help you ask for breaks if you are getting tired.
  • Your Intermediary will help the professionals around you know how to best communicate with you so you understand.

What will happen in court?

  • When you are in court, you and your Intermediary will work closely with your representative to help you feel listened to and heard.
  • Your Intermediary is there to support your communication needs and if you have to stand up in court to speak, they will stand with you.
  • Your Intermediary will offer to show you the courtroom before you go in.
  • They can explain who everyone in the room is.
  • They’ll even make sure you can bring things into court that make you feel more comfortable, such as a favourite toy, or a picture to make you comfortable.

Is my Intermediary on my side?

  • Your Intermediary does not take sides, they are there to help the court communicate with you and for you to communicate back to the court.
  • Your Intermediary will be there to support your communication needs.
